End hunger, achieve food security locally, improve nutrition and promote agri-tourism

Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

Day 4: Lockdown Reflection and looking ahead

Tourism can be a catalyst to promote agricultural productivity by promoting the production, use and sale of local produce in tourist destinations and its full integration into the tourism value chain. Agro-tourism is a growing tourism segment and complement traditional agricultural activities. Through initiatives such as agro-tourism a rise in income will be a result in local communities that can promote sustainable agriculture while enhancing the value of the tourism experiences.

Living with COVID 19 in the future will be a reality on a global level. Tourism as we know it will have to undergo significant transformation to be able to align itself with the "new normal". Tourism destinations and activities will have to become more resilient and might have to start considering diversifying to some extent. With the significant opportunities available in agro-tourism combined with bio-economy opportunities and also gastronomy we might just be able to gain quicker momentum during these tough times towards ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture through tourism.
